This self-guided tour introduces Chefchaouen, a Rif town founded in 1471 around its kasbah and settled by Andalusian refugees. You start in Outa el-Hammam square, facing the Great Mosque, then visit the kasbah and its garden before losing yourself in the lanes of the blue medina. You then reach Ras el-Maa spring, outside the ramparts, and climb to the Spanish mosque for a view over the whole town. Allow half a day on foot. The climb to the Spanish mosque takes about twenty minutes: keep it for sunset.
