This self-guided tour introduces the Portuguese city of Mazagan, the old El Jadida, a bastioned fortress-town built from 1541 and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2004. You start with the ramparts and bastions facing the Atlantic, then reach the old parade ground, with the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and the Portuguese cistern building. Allow two hours on foot. The cistern has been closed for restoration since 2021: it can be seen from outside.
