This self-guided tour introduces Merzouga and the Tafilalet, to enjoy over two days. The first day is devoted to the desert: the Hassi Labied oasis and its khettara, the dunes of Erg Chebbi, the seasonal lake of Dayet Srij, then the village of Khamlia and its Gnawa music. The second day takes you near Rissani, about forty kilometres away, to the site of Sijilmassa, the great caravan city, and to the ruins of the royal city of Abbar. Distances are covered by car or 4x4. Set off early, carry water and avoid the hottest hours.
